Meningitis misdiagnosis leads to $10m verdict against Alabama Hospital

A medical mistake lead to a meningitis misdiagnosis in Alabama that caused serious injury to a 3-month old. The lawsuit was filed by the child’s father, Daniel Cantu.

The defendant in this case was Walker Baptist Medical Center. The child was brought into the hopsital after having a number of symptoms. While he was admitted to the hospital, he received no tests to rule out bacterial infection and was not given antibiotics.

Even though the child was still having symptoms of bacterial infection, he was discharged from the hospital. The jury found that this was medical malpractice. The meningitis misdiagnosis led to the infection growing worse, and permanent life long injuries, including brain damage, hearing loss, and seizures.
