NY Surgical Malpractice results in $1.52m verdict after jury trial

A NY surgical malpractice case was tried before a jury recently, who returned a $1.52m verdict. 51-year-old Denise Frith underwent what should have been a routine hysterectomy.

The jury found that the surgical error was a result of the surgeon failing to repair cuts made in Ms. Frith’s abdomen, which lead to infection. As a result of this surgical malpractice, Ms. Frith has a colostomy and had to wear a bag to collect her waste for seven months, then had to undergo additional abdominal surgeries.

Surgical malpractice cases are difficult to prove without a skilled lawyer and a team of expert medical professionals examining your case against a surgeon. Although the majority of these specialists conduct themselves professionally and competently, the negligence of one doctor, hospital, or other healthcare provider can have traumatic and lifelong consequences for patients who receive improper care. Patients who become victims of medical malpractice can suffer death or serious injury, and they and their families have the right to bring a claim against the negligent party.

It is extremely time-consuming and expensive to pursue a complex medical malpractice case, but our firm can skillfully guide you through the litigation process. If you have been the victim of medical malpractice, contact a lawyer as soon as possible to have your case reviewed.
